Oil and Gas exhibition 2010 will feature specific zones that will focus on core components of the industry including Subsea Technology, Drilling and Downhole Technology, Education and Research, Innovation and

Health & Safety. The comprehensive program will include a Subsea Conference and a series of seminars, forums and workshops, ample opportunities to network, a careers day and much more.
Woodside and the Australasian Oil and Gas Exhibition (AOG) have joined forces to launch a new initiative at AOG 2010 to encourage secondary and tertiary students to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry.

AOG Careers Day will communicate the career opportunities available in the industry through a combination of seminar presentations and face-to-face interaction between students and industry leaders. To be held on 26 March at Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, the Careers Day will be supported by Woodside along with Curtin University, University of Western Australia, JP Kenny, Society for Underwater Technology and Engineers Australia.

Woodside’s Resourcing and Diversity Manager, Ben Davis said the initiative provided an opportunity to not only talk to students about career opportunities in the oil and gas industry available at Woodside,
but also identify potential candidates for the company’s diverse graduate and training programs.
“Securing and developing emerging talent is integral to our growth strategy as we construct our Pluto liquefied natural gas project and progress our Sunrise and Browse LNG developments,” said Mr Davis.
“Woodside actively sources talent through our graduate, internship and apprenticeship programs to ensure a pipeline of talent for the future. We also have clearly defined Indigenous employment training
pathways that provide opportunities for Indigenous Australians.”

The Careers Day will feature two streams of seminars targeting secondary students in years 10-12 and tertiary engineering and science students. Among the industry leaders so far confirmed to present seminars is Yvette Manolas, a Senior Engineer at Woodside and the Western Australian winner of the Telstra Marie Claire Young Business Women’s Award in 2009.

Students participating in Careers Day will also be invited to tour AOG 2010 in small groups and visit supporter stands to meet representatives from each company. “At AOG, we view the development and careers of the ‘next generation’ of oil and gas engineers, scientists and technicians as integral to the future viability of the industry. We are launching Careers Days in 2010 with this in mind and are delighted to have the support of Woodside, Curtin University, University of Western Australia, JP Kenny, Society for Underwater Technology and Engineers Australia,” said Bill Hare, Exhibition Director, AOG.

Woodside is also among the more than 500 local and international exhibitors confirmed for AOG 2010 and will showcase the $1.6 billion Angel project – the North West Shelf Venture’s newest offshore gas
production facility – as part of the exhibition’s new Innovation Zone.
The 2010 Australasian Oil & Gas Expo continues to grow from strength to strength with more
international participation at the event boosting the show’s credibility and affirming Australia as a
serious player in the international oil and gas market. CEO of the UK –based EIC (Energy Industries Council), Mike Major, said that the Australasian oil and gas market is highly attractive to a range of UK companies and that AOG provides a high profile platform for securing further inroads into the local market. “Australia provides a clear and growing market opportunity for UK based companies operating in the oil and gas industry. The EIC recognised these opportunities as a key reason to bring UK companies to Australia – to showcase their wide range of products and services which have gained a well-earned reputation for quality and innovation,” Major said.

The EIC, the leading trade association for UK companies that supply goods and services to the energy industries worldwide and with over 600 members, has reserved 486m² of prime AOG floor space in which to house approximately 30 UK companies including Balmoral Offshore Engineering,
ProsafeOffshore and Sparrows Offshore Services. Scotland will also enjoy exposure to the Australasian market with Scottish Development International reserving a stand within the EIC pavilion.

In addition to introducing UK companies and products to the Australian market, the EIC will also use AOG to showcase its innovative business information tool, EICDataStream. This powerful database tracks the 7,500 most important projects in the global energy industry. “Visitors to AOG will be able to see EICDataStream for themselves with demonstrations at the EIC stand throughout the show. EICDataStream is the only database in the energy industry offering in-depth quality information on such a wide range of projects,” Major said. The sophisticated tool allows users to search the latest project information using a number of different parameters including client, contractor, contact type, value range, project status, region and country. A search for upstream projects in Australia returned 83 projects totalling over US$65 billion.

AOG exhibition director, Bill Hare, said that the support of international associations such as EIC brought a new level of credibility to the show and would assist with delivering increased numbers of delegates to the show floor. “AOG 2010 is set to be something special. The support and interest we have received from international associations, companies and groups has been especially pleasing this time around and the presence they will bring to the show is sure to drive visitor numbers up,” Hare said.

With more than 500 leading local and international companies confirmed to exhibit, visitors can expect to see the latest in exploration and production technology and discover new innovations in subsea, IMR, flow control and engineering.
